EGPWS stands for Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System. It is used to alert pilots to avoid obstacles and terrain. It will give pilots warnings like "TERRAIN, TERRAIN. PULL UP, PULL UP." The Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) is designed to prevent CFIT (controlled flight into terrain). GPWS is based on radio altimeter to provide terrain alert to pilots. If the aircraft is too close to the ground, it will trigger the warning. There are different modes of GPWS. GPWS focuses on preventing terrain/obstacle collisions, monitoring vertical distance to the ground and issuing warnings. TCAS targets mid-air collisions, tracking nearby aircraft via transponders and providing resolution advisories (climb/descend) to maintain separation.
